Questions and Answers
You will have a three hour shoot for a fixed session fee price of £200. You can bring any number of changes of clothes that you wish to bring. No jewellery or heavy make-up as casting directors like a clean look. We will shoot on a black background and a light or dark grey background; your images will be viewable within 48 hours of your shoot in a private gallery on my website for you to select your favourites at your leisure, you will also have the opportunity to view the images as we shoot as I tether my camera to my computer and we only keep the images you are happy with! You can purchase images for £45 per image after which they will be retouched and ready to go, all images you choose will be supplied to you in two formats, a small jpeg size for web/ online casting (Spotlight etc), Linkedin and other social media or business platforms, and a large jpeg for printing. The photographer (Sam Davis) retains the copyright to these images, they are supplied for casting use, agents use, and personal use only. No commercial use is allowed unless agreed prior to use with the photographer. When used on social media and online platforms Sam Davis Headshot Photography must be credited. No extra retouching or added filters are permitted on images as each image supplied represents the working style and reputation of Sam Davis Headshot Photography. I shoot all my images in 'landscape' format, but they can easily fit into any online platform that requires portrait format as there is space around the image to easily fit
What do I wear to have my headshot taken?.
My headshots are taken to only include your head and just below the shoulders, including neckline but not the body, therefore the only important thing you must focus on with your clothes is the top! I like to have plenty to choose from, we can go through whatever you bring on the day and decide what works best. Most importantly there should be nothing with stripes or bold patterns or intricate detail or frill, these elements divert away from your face and we definitely don’t want that! Also of great importance is that your clothes should be clean and as crease free as possible, photoshop is a great tool, but it takes forever to remove dirt or fluff and removing extra creases often makes the item of clothing look strange. So plain colours, clean and as crease free as possible! For anyone bringing shirts and ties, please try to bring a shirt with a smart collar which fits the size of your neck, baggy collars look messy, but if all your shirt collars are big, I do have clips to tighten them at the back!
Do you supply a make-up artist ?
No, I don’t have an in-house make-up artist, I recommend you come to me looking just as you would for an audition. In my experience anyone involved with casting likes a natural look with make-up as gentle and clean as possible. You can use make-up as coverage and highlight but not as a way in which to alter your features, casting directors know that if they see you as you are, looking your best, they can work with you. If you feel you need a make-up artist to achieve a natural look, please feel free to bring someone along, there is plenty of room, but try and arrive ready to shoot as three hours is the maximum time for shooting. Hair should be clean and natural, and again it should be something you can do for an audition or meeting, but if you struggle with your hair and need a hair stylist feel free to use a professional. We will change clothes and looks so bring top up make-up with you. For everyone I will have tissues available for shiny patches and please be sure to moisturise your skin and lips before coming for your shoot.
How do I prepare for a headshot shoot?
The best thing you can do is relax and not worry about it, you will be in my hands and under my guidance, I’m fully experienced in getting the best results and I will coach you along at every step; your main job is to be there, and my job is to capture the best of you! My lighting is gorgeous and flattering for all faces, I keep it clean and simple. Drink lots of water the day before, get a good nights sleep, arrive on time, and bring a snack! Finally, I remember when I used to have my headshot taken and people would say ‘Hey, just be yourself', that always freaked me out! I believe it is so much more than that, and so much easier. To me, it’s a wonderful process in which we find the gift you want to offer to the world, the representation of your energy, your essence, and your passion. And I’m right there for you, to guide you, bring your focus into the lens, and out into the world.
I have recently relocated to Barnet in North London. I am checking out studio spaces, but in the meantime I am available and ready to shoot, please click on my contact page and email me if you would like a session. Thank you!
